With the publication of the College Sustainability Report Card 2010, more than 1,100 school survey responses from over 300 institutions are now available online. In total, these surveys offer more than 10,000 pages of data collected from colleges and universities during the summer of 2009. 1) Please describe the student-run campus environmental/sustainability organization in which you have a leadership role.
Name of organization: Sustainable Energy for North East Asia (SENEA)

Frequency of meetings: Weekly
Key issues addressed and programs implemented since August 2008: The main issue addressed is introducing sustainable energy solutions to rural areas of the world. Programs include weekly fabrication sessions and welding days.
Progress made on each issue/program since August 2008: Each member of SENEA has contributed to a specific sustainable energy project including the design and fabrication of wind turbines, an aquaponics system, and a human-electric powered vehicles.

SUSTAINABILITY IN STUDENT GOVERNMENT
3) Does your student government include a specific position or committee dedicated to campus sustainability issues?
[  ]  No
[X]  Yes. Please describe: The Sustainability Committee has made progress with the installation of recycling bins around campus. The group takes input from students, professors, and faculty, and carries out improvements for the school. New plans include converting to a tray-less cafeteria system, reducing the number of water bottles sold in vending machines, and reducing water and electricity waste.

OTHER ACTIVITIES
4) Please describe any additional campus sustainability activities or projects that you or your group has initiated at your school:  SENEA is dedicated to spreading the knowledge of sustainable energy throughout the campus and the world community. Membership of SENEA has grown significantly as more students at TU embrace the values of sustainability. During the summer, fall, and winter breaks, members travel to target regions and implement the projects researched throughout the year.

1) Please describe the student-run campus environmental/sustainability organization in which you have a leadership role.

Frequency of meetings: Twice/week during the school year.
Key issues addressed and programs implemented since August 2008: Map campus to determine placement of recycling containers, addition of large dumpster sized pro-tainers to all apartment complexes, residence halls and on campus living areas.

Progress made on each issue/program since August 2008: Encouraged student awareness via a student wide campus survey and used those results to help the sustainability committee and the administration realize the importance of going green.

Frequency of meetings: Once a month during the school year.
Key issues addressed and programs implemented since August 2008: Director of Operations for Athletics and Director of Purchasing are now members of the Sustainability committee. Allows purchasing and athletic departments to bring ideas to the table and allow more campus events to have sustainability in mind.
All residence buildings now have a pro-tainer recycling centers located near each trash dumpster.

Established an every other light off policy for the football stadium during non-use.

 

Progress made on each issue/program since August 2008: Successfully implemented the removal of Styrofoam to-go containers from the residence dining hall, and replaced with a reusable container.

Making progress to have recycling at athletics events has successfully been implemented in Basketball; Football should be operational by Fall 2009.

 Trying to establish trayless dining across all dining venues.

Sustainability Website redesigned and newsletter published bi-annually.

#1 - Name of competition:  Recyclemania

Year initiated: 2005
Frequency of competition: annually
Participants: campuswide competing against participating colleges and universities nationwide and Canada [510 schools from all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Canada took part in 2009]. The 4.7 million students and 1.1 million faculty and staff on these campuses collectively recycled or composted…
Incentives: Top Ranking
Goal of competition: Promote and increase waste reduction participation, recycle the most amount of materials in a 10-week competition,and lower waste generated.

Percent of energy/water/waste reduced:  15.61 cumulative recyclables lbs/person –ranked 1/82
Lasting effects of competition: Awareness

Name of competition:  “E-waste” Fundraising Drive

Year initiated: 2009
Frequency of competition: hope to continue annually
Participants: TU partnered with Tulsa-based recycler EarthEcycle, LLC
Incentives: All proceeds raised were donated to a local middle school
Goal of competition: Collect and recycle computer and electronic disposables

Percent of energy/water/waste reduced:  90K Tons collected
Lasting effects of competition: Less electronic equipment in landfills

3) Does your student government include a specific position or committee dedicated to campus sustainability issues?

[ X ]  Yes. Please describe: Chief Officer of External Relations is the chair of the Sustainability Committee, a joint committee of students, faculty, and staff that research and lead sustainability initiatives on campus, reporting to the Executive Vice President for Business and Finance (over the Physical Plant, Security and logistics, and reports directly to the President of the University).

OTHER ACTIVITIES
4) Please describe any additional campus sustainability activities or projects that you or your group has initiated at your school: 

E-Waste Drive, recycling bins around campus, earth day/swap meet. Working on trayless, removal of to-go boxes to be replaced a reusable container issued to each student.

Also, we have encouraged the formation of and chartered organizations such as Sustainable Energy for North East Asia, a student group dedicated to researching and advocating sustainable energy technologies both on campus and around the world.
