Key issues addressed and programs implemented since August 2008: Mountain-Top Removal Coal Mining, PowerVote ’08, PowerShift ’09, sustainable use of energy on campus (Presidents Climate Commitment), burning surface-mine coal on campus (Don’t Chop Rocky Top), alternative energy sources (National Teach-In Day), funding for a sustainable campus (student environmental fee), local and organic food (Green Dining)
Progress made on each issue/program since August 2008: University reduced energy consumption by almost 10%, Federal Administration has restricted the ease of Surface Mining for coal, University of Tennessee-Knoxville has committed to burn surface-mine coal only, raise significant funding for initiating environmental programs on campus, adoption of sustainable practices by the Dining Services
