A 
The university has adopted the goal of a sustainable campus in its strategic plan, and a task force of more than 30 students, faculty, and staff developed a sustainability strategic plan. The Office of Sustainability, which employs one full-time staff member, and the Sustainability Council hosted a sustainability summit and published a campus sustainability report.

Climate Change & Energy

The university has undertaken many energy efficiency projects including lighting retrofits, upgrades to high-efficiency boilers and chillers, and installation of heat recovery and ice storage systems. Energy conservation projects include seasonal temperature setbacks and signage encouraging specific conservation measures. There is a small thin film laminate solar electric system, and a solar thermal system heats the recreation center pool.

Food & Recycling

The university spends 6 percent of its food budget on local dairy, meats, and produce. Dining services donates excess food to a local soup kitchen. In 2009, the campus implemented a single-stream recycling program, and electronics are recycled. Source reduction initiatives include book and clothing swaps and end-of-semester donations, as well as an ongoing program to exchange used office equipment.

Green Building

UCCS is committed to a minimum of LEED Silver standards for all new construction. There are two LEED Gold-certified buildings on campus and the university is pursuing certification on two additional buildings. Daylight and occupancy sensors have been installed in a quarter of the campus's building space, and the entire campus has been retrofitted with low-flow urinals and dual-flush toilets. More than 90 percent of construction waste is recycled.

Student Involvement

The university employs three student interns to work on sustainability initiatives, including an alternative transportation coordinator to explore more sustainable transportation options for the campus. The Students for Environmental Awareness and Sustainability club works to educate the community about sustainability, conserve resources, reduce waste, and is developing a campus organic garden. New students are introduced to sustainability via a campus green tour at orientation.

Transportation

On-campus shuttle buses run on biodiesel fuel and the campus fleet includes hybrid and electric vehicles. The recreation center provides free bicycle repairs.

The University of Colorado Foundation makes a list of external managers and mutual funds available to the public on a password-protected website. Proxy voting information is accessible at the investment office to the board of directors, senior administrators, and other select members of the school community.
