Key issues addressed and programs implemented since August 2008: coalition building with student organizations, resolutions through the A.S. to support water conservation, more commuter solutions instead of parking lots, and bottled water reduction resolution; The Green Initiative Fund (pool of 80,000 dollars for green projects)
Progress made on each issue/program since August 2008: All resolutions were passed (most unanimously), SESC (which is an advisory group to our student government, a place for student organization leaders to meet together, and a committee for organizing on large coalition-based programs) also heavily through resources and support behind the sustainability referendum that passed during winter quarter to fund the green initiative fund and the student sustainability collective in the up and coming sustainability resource center.

Key issues addressed and programs implemented since August 2008:
Most Sustainable Chapter of the Year Award (GGG Chapter Points given out for attendance and participation at our quarterly community service event): Chi Omega and Sigma Chi were the first recipients of our award at our annual UCSD Greek Awards.
UCSD TGIF Charter – Promoted the benefits of having a sustainability referendum passed on campus to each individual chapter; Successfully passed by Student Referendum, large Greek turn out in support.

#1 - Name of competition: CPK New Member Recycling Competition
Year initiated: 2008
Frequency of competition: Once a year
Participants: 68 Greeks representing nine different chapters collected large bags of recycling for 3+ hours from trashcans in the dorms and around campus
Incentives: GGG Chapter Points and CPK dinner for the top two pairs of students
Goal of competition: To educate the Greek community about what can be recycled in San Diego and how much of that recycling is thrown away every single day
Percent of energy/water/waste reduced: We had over 50 large trash bags of recycling collected which was taken to the local recycling facility.
Lasting effects of competition: Improved Greek education on recycling in San Diego, and hopefully reducing the amount of recycling thrown away on Campus overall.

#2 - Name of competition: June ’09 Surfrider Garage Sale
Year initiated: 2009
Frequency of competition: once a year; spring quarter
Participants: Day one was UCSD and La Jolla; Day two was primarily UCSD students. Clothes donated by Greek Chapters as a competition
Incentives: GGG Chapter Points for clothes donated
Goal of competition: To demonstrate the benefits of reusing old clothes and also promoting our group/goals to the University at large
Percent of energy/water/waste reduced: Over $400 was raised from $1-2 optional donations since we could not “sell” anything on campus
Lasting effects of competition: Increased awareness to the benefits of reusing clothes and other products instead of simply throwing them away. Every product has another use, we just need to find it.

#3 - Name of competition: May ’08 CFL Light Bulb Exchange
Year initiated: 2008
Frequency of competition: once a year; fall quarter
Participants:
Incentives: GGG Chapter Points
Goal of competition: To increase Greek education regarding energy use and the benefits of accumulated small changes to your individual lifestyle.
Percent of energy/water/waste reduced: over 600 bulbs exchanged in Greek Chapter Competition, saving over 30,000 watts of electricity for a year and over $6,000 in energy consumption.
Lasting effects of competition: Improved awareness about energy consumption and the effects of using CFL bulbs in reducing individual energy bills.
