College Sustainability Report Card 2010

The college's sustainability task force includes students, administration, faculty, and staff, and has developed key performance indicators toward sustainability as well as a recycling working group. The committee also worked to create a sustainability-themed residence option. A draft green purchasing policy is currently under review.

The university has been conducting energy upgrades throughout campus by replacing old motors and compressors and installing energy-efficient lighting and HVAC systems. The college drafted a climate action plan, which, when finalized, will set goals for greenhouse gas emissions reduction.

All eggs used in the dining halls are cage-free, and seafood is purchased according to sustainability guidelines. The college composts nearly all of its landscape waste and recycles most traditional materials and electronics. Trinity also has a Dump and Run program for students to donate used items.

The college green building policy stipulates that all new construction must meet at least LEED Silver standards. Residence halls are currently being outfitted with energy-efficient laundry units.

A sustainability-themed house, the Treehouse, is available, and the college offers 35 sustainability internships for students. A student organization called Green Campus leads a variety of projects, including neighborhood litter clean-ups, tree planting, and documentary viewings.

Students can use public transportation in Hartford free of charge, and the college provides a free shuttle service around campus. Students also receive discounted memberships to a car-sharing program on campus.

The college makes neither a list of endowment holdings nor its shareholder voting record public. This information is available only to trustees and senior administrators.

The college aims to optimize investment return and is currently invested in renewable energy funds.
