College Sustainability Report Card 2010

Chancellor Boschini signed the Presidents' Climate Commitment, and the university has an environmental council that plans and implements sustainability projects. Custodial staff use cleaning products that are Green Seal-certified.

Campus community members commit to reducing their energy consumption by signing and adhering to the university's Green Pledge. Texas Christian is pursuing an energy conservation and retrofit program that includes replacing chilled water systems, pumping systems, air handling units, and boilers with high-efficiency units.

The physical plant department recycles yard waste, scrap metal, and construction debris. All paper products from administrative and academic facilities are collected and placed in specially marked recycling containers.

The university has a stated goal to design new buildings and major retrofits to LEED standards. A new 74,000-square-foot academic facility, currently under construction, will be registered for LEED certification. TCU’s newest dorms utilize a variety of water conservation measures, including low-flow showerheads and dual-flush toilets.

Adduco Viridis is Texas Christian's environmental student group. Students may choose to live in the Green House, an environmentally themed living and learning community. Numerous students have committed to being more environmentally aware by signing the Green Pledge. Students participated in the RecycleMania competition.

A free campus shuttle system connects parking areas to campus destinations. Local buses and trains can be ridden for free with a valid university ID card. The Purple Bike Program provides free bikes for campus community use.

The university makes neither a list of endowment holdings nor its shareholder voting record public.

The university aims to optimize investment return and is currently invested in renewable energy funds and is exploring further investment options.

The university provides its investment managers with general guidelines that determine proxy votes.
