College Sustainability Report Card 2010

Ohio Northern University has no known policy relating to campus-wide sustainability initiatives.

The Taft Memorial Building is equipped with a combination wind generator and solar panel system that provides energy for the building. The university increased insulation in several campus buildings to conserve energy. In addition, high-efficiency HVAC systems have been installed in Dukes Memorial and are slated for installation in two additional buildings. New residence halls will have geothermal heating and cooling systems.

Ohio Northern has recently purchased four single-stream waste compactors that allow more materials to be accepted and increase efficiency by eliminating the need for manual sorting. The university’s dining services department does not offer any notable amount of local or organic foods.

Ohio Northern requires that future building projects achieve a LEED Silver rating at a minimum. The university has installed some low-flow fixtures and dual- or automatic-flushing toilets. Low-energy lighting and reflective rubber roofing are used in all campus buildings.

The student organization Ohio Northern Environmentalist (ONE) works to increase environmental awareness within the campus community and develop projects that improve the local environment.

Three hybrid vehicles and ten electric trucks have been added to the university fleet. The university has expanded available bicycle racks to create a more bike-friendly campus.

The university has no known policy of disclosure of endowment holdings or its shareholder voting record.

The university aims to optimize investment return and has not made any public statements about investigating or investing in renewable energy funds or community development loan funds.
