The university installed 2,500 occupancy sensor lighting controls in offices, meeting rooms, and classrooms and has verified schedules and correct operation of Building Management Systems. NYU has upgraded lighting systems in over ten buildings as past of a campus-wide, rolling lighting retrofit program. NYU has replaced over 25,000 incandescent lightbulbs with low-mercury, high efficiency compact fluorescent lightbulbs in residence halls and gives incoming students CFLs each year for use in desk or bed lamps. In addition, NYU is reconfiguring summer equipment schedules to save energy during the cooling season, and is beginning a large-scale recommissioning project.  NYU is also adding natural gas fired water heaters to supply domestic hot water in summer, obviating the use of inefficient fuel oil space heating boilers in summer.
