Key issues addressed and programs implemented since August 2008: Initiated political action against climate change (held “Call for Change” programs in which students wrote and called their representatives and told them to support strong climate legislation); promoted awareness about the importance of recycling; held Focus the Nation events (a teach-in and an awareness concert); held a yearlong “Think Globally, Drink Locally” campaign and gave free reusable water bottles to students to discourage them from using plastic.
Progress made on each issue/program since August 2008: Increased environmental political action by students, increased awareness, decreased plastic use (students signed a pledge to use their reusable bottles instead of plastic bottles).

SUSTAINABILITY IN STUDENT GOVERNMENT
3) Does your student government include a specific position or committee dedicated to campus sustainability issues?

[ X] Yes. Please describe: The Associated Students of Loyola Marymount University (the LMU student government) has a position called, “Director of Environmental Responsibility.” This director manages the twice-monthly campus Farmer’s Market. Other official tasks are:
*Hold office hours 4-5 hours per week
*Plan and co-sponsor events to cultivate an ethic of environmental awareness and activism
*Be the principal ASLMU advocate and voice for student concerns regarding resource consumption, recycling and waste management, decisions about sustainability on campus, and environmental justice, impact and preservation in the greater Los Angeles area.
* Advise the President and Cabinet on matters pertaining to environmental responsibility
*Serve as a liaison between the University Sustainability Coordinator and any University committees regarding environmental sustainability
*Manage a committee to assist in executing responsibilities
*Complete a report each semester detailing the University-wide environmental issues and advancements to be distributed to the ASLMU president, cabinet, senate, and any member of the University community upon request

4) Please describe any additional campus sustainability activities or projects that you or your group has initiated at your school: Members of the group have initiated a composting program of pre-consumer waste; an awareness campaign with a different environmental theme each month; collected signatures and hosted a letter-writing campaign to our representative, Maxine Waters.
