Date of last meeting: SLUG had our volunteer celebration picnic just yesterday, June 9, with a great turnout and tons of all organic- fresh grown fruits and vegetables :-D
Greenfire had a meeting this past Saturday, June 6 where we planned out our goals for next year.
Frequency of meetings: SLUG is in the garden or greenhouse daily, except in the beginning of winter when we meet only once or twice a week.
Greenfire has been meeting once weekly, but will begin meeting twice weekly next year, as was recently decided.

[X] Yes. Please describe:
The LUCC Environmental Responsibility Committee. They work on synthesizing the various community efforts to go green across campus, and have had some major administration victories this year, including a new HVAC policy for academic buildings to reduce energy consumption, and have also established a yearly grant of $1500 dollars (or perhaps even more, unsure!) for student environmental initiatives that any student can apply to use over the course of the school year.

4) Please describe any additional campus sustainability activities or projects that you or your group has initiated at your school:
Dorm wide post-consumer composting was attempted in just one dorm, Ormsby, this spring, and hopefully we will draft a mandatory composting committee to be added to each hall council and institutionalize this in the Fall.

McCarthy House Cooperative- an institution on Lawrence Campus, the coop is all-vegetarian and dedicated to living in an environmentally responsibly, community based way.

Key issues addressed and programs implemented since August 2008:
Re-established the committee; Established the Environmental Initiative grant to fund environmentally-focused projects; Drafted resolution (which passed) to address HVAC issues in residence halls (goal temperature of 68-70 degrees); started developing materials to collobarate with Residence Life to promote 'green' living on campus (recycling, energy/electricity saving, HVAC, etc.)

No not currently, but we have talked about having recycling competitions and/or energy/electricity competitions among dorms (currently limited with energy/electricity by monitoring capabilities)

Yes. Please describe:
The LUCC Environmental Responsibility Committee is a standing committee of LUCC (the student government) and was re-established this year. We aim to promote understanding and awarness of environmental responsiblity within the Lawrence Community, sponsor educational programs on environmental responsibility, coordinate environmental projects on campus, and pass legislation/initiatives/resolutions regarding environmental issues.

Fix Your Bike Day-- an event during which students could bring their bikes to be repaired/learn how to repair their own bikes; I have also written up proposals this past term (part of an independent study) to address campus grounds policies and waste reduction (proposals attached.)

Key issues addressed and programs implemented since August 2008: On-campus recycling, reduction of disposable product usage, environmental-awareness campaigns
Progress made on each issue/program since August 2008: Analyzed recycling on campus and made adjustments to the system to accommodate a new sort-free recycling program. Increased access to battery and lightbulb recycling. Launched publicity campaign to educate students about changes to recycling system including implementation of recycling rules into new-student orientation. Worked with other campus groups to agree on policy for the new campus center's use of unnecessary disposable products such as bottled water and paper cups. Ran several days of bottled water vs. tap water taste-testing to break stigma surrounding tap water. Began other small educational campaigns to reduce energy-usage in dorms (e.g. by lowering thermostats slightly and encouraging students to keep their windows shut in winter) and energy-usage around campus (e.g. turning off lights, using fewer paper-towels, etc).

[ X ] Yes. Please describe: The student government has a committee on sustainability that includes students, faculty, and staff. This committee writes legislation to increase sustainability and meets with campus groups to help them coordinate their efforts and work together on environmental issues.

Greenfire often brings in speakers to educate the community about environmental concerns. In 2008, we brought Chris Paine, the director of Who Killed the Electric Car? to Lawrence for a talk plus Q&A. In 2010, Greenfire plans to have Ralph Nader come to campus.
