Key issues addressed and programs implemented since August 2008: facility energy usage, dorm energy usage, climate change legislation, PowerVote, Powershift, Focus the Nation, CFL changeout
Progress made on each issue/program since August 2008: over 1000 Powervote pledges from the Claremont Colleges, money invested in making sprinkler/irrigation system more efficient, campus carbon footprint calculation completed for ACUPCC (American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment)

Year initiated: 2007
Frequency of competition: Once (First year, it was just at Pomona College, second year, it was between all 5 Claremont Colleges)
Participants: Scripps College, Pomona College, Harvey Mudd College, Pitzer College, Claremont McKenna College
Incentives: College to reduce energy usage the most over the period of one month would win a sustainability prize, agreed to with College administration prior to start of competition
Goal of competition: To raise awareness about energy efficiency and reduce overall energy consumption
Percent of energy/water/waste reduced: 14.4% energy reduction
Lasting effects of competition: Money saved was reinvested in sustainability projects for campus maintenance and facilities

 Save the Ales party-- party serving local, organic beer where guests participated in a photo petition for climate change legislation

Earth Hour: national campaign to turn off lights for an hour
Focus the Nation: brought Focus the Nation founder Eban Goodstein as a speaker, organized a multi-disciplinary panel made of faculty members on climate change
Think Outside the Bottle-- national anti-bottled water campaign.  Did a taste test of bottled water vs. tap water.
