STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS

1) Please describe the student-run campus environmental/sustainability organization in which you have a leadership role.

Name of organization:  Empower Poly Coalition

(Coalition of Student Clubs) including 27 member clubs listed in question 5.

Frequency of meetings: Large Monthly Gatherings

Key issues addressed and programs implemented since August 2008: TGIF (The Green Initiative Fund), Focus The Nation, CSSC (California Student Sustainability Coalition), The Real Food Challenge, Take Back The Tap Campaign, and banning plastic bottles/bags on campus.

Progress made on each issue/program since August 2008:

* TGIF is still awaiting approval but is well underway.

* Focus The Nation and the CSSC conference were two hugely successful sustainability events.  FTN brought in over 4,000 students while the CSSC conference was represented by UC’s CSU’s and CCC’s across the state.

* The Real Food Challenge, Take Back The Tap, and the banning of plastic bottles/bags are recent efforts for 2009, but are all in full motion, gaining awareness, and implementation.

SUSTAINABILITY IN STUDENT GOVERNMENT

[ X ]  Yes. Please describe: The position is on the Executive Cabinet as the Student Sustainability Officer, holding events, campaigns and general outreach to the university at large.

SLO Sustainability Learning Objective as part of Cal Poly’s mission

ASI  (Associated Students Incorporated) Sustainability Officer within the executive cabinet in association with a subcommittee for sustainability

Academic Senate for Sustainability Committee: Comprised of Faculty, Staff and the Sustainability officer from ASI.

Student Groups part of the Empower Poly Coalition include:
