[ X ]  No
[  ]  Yes. Please describe:

OTHER ACTIVITIES
4) Please describe any additional campus sustainability activities or projects that you or your group has initiated at your school:

  • Sustainable Cooperative: The Bucknell Environmental Club (officially SEAC) organized Bucknell’s first sustainable cooperative.  While Bucknell has a dorm housing option for students interested in the environment (the Environmental Residential College), the co-op is the first housing option for students who are committed to changing their lifestyle to be more sustainable.  The co-op is in a house on campus for 15 students who will decide the structure of the program in the fall when it is initiated.
    The co-op plans to include:
-Vegetable and herb garden for backyard with composting
-Events with the local community and Bucknell community
    -Buy local campaign
-Initiatives to reduce energy and water usage
    …among others.
  • Reusable To-Go Containers for the Cafeteria: Plans for this were in place during the 2007-2008 year but the program didn’t get initiated until Fall 2008.  The pilot year only included 50 containers but for the upcoming year the to-go containers will now be free for any freshman but upperclassmen must pay $5.  The alternative to reusable to-go containers are plastic containers that cannot be recycled.
  • Refillable To-Go Mug Sticker Program: Plans for this were in place during the 2007-2008 year but the program didn’t get initiated until Fall 2008.  “Refillable mug” stickers are sold on campus for $1 for 16 oz. mugs and people receive a $0.25 discount each time they buy coffee.
  • 350 Climate Action Festival: Bucknell will be hosting a week-long event for October 2009, in honor of the 350 Climate Action Festival.  The event includes a keynote speaker, student guest lecturers to classes across the board (from other colleges), a sustainability celebration, and mini student competitions throughout the week to show (one of which includes the Passport challenge: to get their “passport” (made out of paper scraps) stamped at 8-10 eco-friendly stations, including the cafeteria if the student uses a reusable to-go container), among other events.

5) Please list and briefly describe any other student-run organizations related to campus sustainability at your school, and provide URLs if available (e.g., student groups; student government committees; student-run food co-ops, gardens/farms, bike co-ops) and provide contact information of the student leaders, if possible:  Bison Bikes: This was the first year for the Bison Bikes program, started by the Bucknell Student Government (BSG).  Around 30 bikes were used and lent out to students for a week where the students could ride/park them wherever as long as the bike was returned after a week.

  • FTN: For the past 2 years Bucknell has hosted Focus the Nation.  The event is put on by the Environmental Center, led by a student intern and the Sustainability Coordinator.  Focus the Nation includes a keynote speaker and professor panels throughout the entire day that lead students in discussion about climate change.

Questions 6 is for informational purposes only; your response will NOT be included in the Report Card evaluation process.

6) Please list any regional or national networks with which your group is affiliated (e.g., Energy Action Coalition/Campus Climate Challenge, Sierra Student Coalition, a state PIRG, a state student sustainability coalition):
