Seton Hall University’s housekeeping department uses recycled paper and green cleaning products, but the school has no known policy relating to campus-wide sustainability initiatives.
Seton Hall has implemented some energy efficiency technology, including motion sensor lighting, fluorescent fixtures with electronic ballasts, and a new, efficient dishwashing machine. A solar-powered exhaust fan was installed in a storage shed.
Dining services procurement guidelines require that purchases be made from local farmers as often as possible. Organic items are available at the "Organic and You" station. Biodegradable containers are available and students receive a discount for using a refillable mug. A machine creates fuel from used cooking oil, and another unit composts food waste, converting it into a liquid that can easily be disposed of or transformed into fuel. Traditional materials and ink cartridges can be recycled on campus.
The new Science and Technology Center features HVAC and building energy management systems, occupancy sensors for lighting, low-VOC paints, and an existing building was incorporated into its design.
