College Sustainability Report Card 2009

President McDavis signed the Presidents Climate Commitment. In 2007–2008, the sustainability office staff included a full-time sustainability coordinator, two graduate assistants, a part-time administrative position, and several undergraduate student staffers.

The university will release its first greenhouse gas emissions inventory in September 2008. The Light it Up Right bulb exchange program provides efficient lightbulbs to the campus community for free. Various campus upgrades, such as lighting retrofits, green computing management, energy metering, and HVAC monitoring, increase energy efficiency on campus.

The Farm-to-College program provides local food in the dining halls. Dining services purchases from the local farmers market, a produce auction, and at least five other local vendors. The university is in the process of installing an in-vessel composting system, which will be operational in fall 2008.

Ohio University has adopted a green building policy. The campus master plan incorporates green design and LEED guidance in university development goals. The plan requires that all design team consultants be LEED-accredited.

The sustainability office actively assists, both financially and organizationally, sustainability-oriented student organizations such as the Sierra Student Coalition and the Sustainable Living Organization. Numerous paid internships are available on campus. The Ohio Ecohouse demonstrates affordable green technology and sustainable living.

The Campus Area Transit System provides free bus service throughout campus to university students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The university supports carpools by facilitating an online network to connect rideshare participants.

The university and the Ohio University Foundation make a list of endowment holdings available to the public by request, as per open records laws. This information is sent to individuals upon request.

The university and the Ohio University Foundation aim to optimize investment return and are currently invested in renewable energy funds.

A member of the university administration determines proxy votes based on a board-approved proxy policy guideline.
